The Beehive Collective in Residence in our Department
Five members of the Beehive, a design cooperative based in Machias, Maine, are in residence in the Art Education Department from February 21-28. They are visiting classes and studios, installing an exhibition in the Arnheim Gallery, and giving two public presentations.
The Beehive’s mission is to create collaborative, anti-copyright images that can be used as alternative educational and organizing tools. Best known for their posters, the bees collaborate to create visual narratives that break down and deconstruct complex and overwhelming political/social issues.

An Artistic Noise Retrospective 2001-2011
Arnheim Gallery
February 6-24
Reception: Wednesday February 8, 5-8pm
Gallery Talk: February 8, 6:30pm
Two journeys are revealed by this retrospective exhibition. The first is the collective journey of hundreds of youth involved with the juvenile justice system and youth living in the communities served by Artistic Noise, who have made art over the past ten years in Boston and New York. Through their artwork, these young artists have made their voices heard. The exhibition title “Uproar” describes the intensity and force of their voices when brought together under one roof for this exhibition.
