Rika Burnham, Head of Education, The Frick Collection
Elliott Kai-Kee
, Education Specialist, J. Paul Getty Museum

Thursday, April 19, 2012
Arthur M. Sackler Museum, 485 Broadway, Cambridge, MA

How is a work of art brought to life? How can educators foster meaningful experiences with art? What kind of pedagogy grants students the freedom to engage in the act of meaning-making and interpretation? What values and practices have shaped the field of museum education, and what is the future of teaching in art museums?

Celebrated museum educators Rika Burnham and Elliott Kai-Kee will consider these questions of art and experience, and teaching and interpretation. Their new book, Teaching in the Art Museum: Interpretation as Experience, has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2011 PROSE Award for Education, given by the Professional and Scholarly Publishing Division of the Association of American Publishers.
