Color in Art Education

Abstract:

Since it’s inception, art education practice in the public school setting
has been modified many times over. The most beneficial change was the
addition of teaching color and the use of color mediums in the art classroom.
Not only was this change beneficial for student enjoyment of art, but also for
self-expression.  The addition of color helped to push art education away from
the negative effects of Walter Smith and the South Kensington method of
copying renderings and following step-by-step instructions and towards
individual expression and creativity.
