This course challenged students technically and conceptually through the exploration of different modes of abstract painting. Various strategies were examined, with the primary focus of the class being an elaboration of such basic ideas as color, tonal structure, scale, and composition as they apply to abstraction.
We started with the assignment to create 15 black and white drawings, taking inspiration from magazine and other image examples.
Then, we used our drawings as inspiration for larger scale color paintings.
