These paintings focus on providing the viewer with a voyeuristic snapshot into the mundane inner workings of human existence. By removing the female form from it’s usual place of objectivity and beauty in paintings and replacing that stereotype with uncomfortable and sometimes grotesquely honest portrayals of the female figure, I am looking to re-humanize the female figure in painting.
These paintings are also attempting showcase the moments in life that we all experience, yet feel the need to keep hidden from the rest of the world. There are times in everyone’s lives that are meant to be kept private. We all have these moments in common, yet, we all insist upon keeping them hidden. By using a mostly monochromatic color scheme, I am able to lessen the reality of the specific scene and, rather, make it a more ambiguous setting in which the viewer can place him/her self. The scale of the works also helps to create an imposing feeling, forcing the viewer to become involved in the work and personally connect to the emotions of the scene.
