Arkheim Gallery

With this gallery, I was more impressed with the variety of work going from 2d to 3d to fashion. Since the subject matter appeared to vary throughout the exhibit, I had a harder time focusing on each piece and trying to develop my own sense of what is going on. But I did thoroughly enjoy the exhibit and what it had to offer because it was such a mixed media exhibition.

The Thesis exhibition

I thoroughly enjoyed this exhibit strictly because of the photography in the first part of the gallery. the dramatic poses and the way the subtle light captures the individuals curves amazes me. I would love to have this skill in photography. After the first few pieces in the gallery, I kept comparing each piece to the theme of sexuality and being comfortable with your body, do matter what flaws you might have you are still beautiful in your own little way. These works kind of taught me a lesson.

Anja Van Herle (My mom’s older sister (My aunt))

Her expressionistic paintings are fascinating. Even though she does not go for extreme realism, her ability to capture such a facial expression is magnificent. I attempt to use my mark making in a way that captures the correct facial expressions that I am looking for. Emotions was a big part of my portfolio concentration.

June Allard-Berte (Great Aunt on my mother’s side)

Love her intense mark making and vibrant use of colors. She takes into consider the whole canvas and creates a feeling of calmness. Her subject matter is always peaceful and serene which relates to my work a lot because I like to create a sense of peace and harmony in my work with my color choices.

Michele Rushworth (Aunt on my mother’s side)

From the looks of her paintings, she appears to be creating her own light and the way she is able to capture the figure is magnificent. She is able to capture the wrinkles correctly and much more. I enjoy creating my own sense of space and my own shadows in my pieces which is what she does in most of her figures.

Family member. (Stubborn uncle on my mother’s side)

Yakov Dedyk is a russian painter who’s ability to capture a figure is outstanding. His work has the exact realism as a photo and a lot of his work is surrounded by a frame, which gives the image a sense of depth. I attacked the same idea using a frame as well as trying to capture a sense of realism in my portraits.

My Uncle, Jacob Collins, really knows how to convey mood and feeling through his figure paintings, which was my initial motive when I started my portfolio this semester. Without much information, this individual’s emotion is very clear because of his expression and pose.

family member: (Second Cousin (moms side))

This piece known as “Natural Design,” exhibits a strong sense of color. In my work, I focus a lot on finding the various hidden colors that do not initially appear to the human eye. I immediately thought about that technique when I first came across this piece.  (Australian artist).

Isabella Gardner Museum

I have attended the Isabella Museum many times, but as I was walking through her collection of art work, I had a topic on my mind. I was thinking strictly about portraiture because that is what I have been focusing on in my collection. My professor gave me an amazing idea about searching for pieces that I could potentially place my face as a replacement in on of the portraits throughout the museum. Unfortunately I was not able to get to that assignment this semester, but I would love to tackle that project this summer. There is not only a variety of paintings, but I thoroughly enjoyed some of the novels she kept over all these years. She did not have a huge collection, but the quality and fragility that each book has really has inspired me in many ways. I could possibly make a self portrait out of a used book. I had never really thought about doing anything more than 2d work until recently and I was definitely inspired by a lot of the old rusty sculptures and 3d objects that were laid out throughout the museum. Every time I reenter that museum I get this feeling of home because she left it in the same way that it was when she passed and there is something about that that makes everything appear a lot more significant to me.

Beth’s gallery

I thoroughly enjoyed Beth Bailero’s work because she used her child as a source of inspiration and her pieces clearly represent the piece and harmony that bringing a child into this world has on a person.

I immediately viewed this piece as a stomach with very beautiful and subtle plant life surrounding it. Each of her pieces exhibited her vision of what her life has been like due to the birth of her beautiful children. Bringing your own personal life experiences into your work allows the viewer to connect more with the artist.
