Artist Statement

The inspiration for the work I make is trash to treasure. I scour flea markets, tag sales, auctions, and even dumpsters to find materials to work with and repurpose. I strive to turn discarded items into new works of art that are both practical and pleasing to look at. My interest in craft and restoration come together when I combine fabric collages or crocheted flowers with rotting window frames or antique rocking chairs. The vintage photos I find in my travels have also led to my interest in recreating this style. I achieve the old style coloring and soft textural effects by using alternative photography techniques such as holga, Polaroid, or fisheye cameras. Working this way lends itself to a lot of experimentation and risk taking. Most of the time I’m not sure of the results I will get, but the exploration is what drives me to continue creating.
