Add on to January 19 assignment

In addition to what I wrote in my Jan 19 post I’ve been spending some serious time looking though materials, scanning articles, and the course readings, and Google-ing.

I created a list of artists I am most intrigued by. I’m interested in Sally Moore’s,  Scrawl, 2005 of steel mesh and wire and the sculptural and scientific based weaving of Nathalie Miebach. I’m also interested  in the subtle and sensual solarplate prints of Dan Welden which could just as easily be gestural sketches of Moores and Miebach’s works.

South American artist Kitteridge combines film, drawings, and sketches in amazing ways. I mostly enjoy the morphing sketches, which have that line quality found in the artists mentioned above.

Controller of the Universe” by Damián Ortega, is a sculpture consisting of tools that are suspended in the air as if they might attack the viewer. I find this fascinating and again, there is a sense of line in his work with the viewer as the point of perspective.

I am very interested in seeking how aesthetics is viewed in sculptural works. Is there a different set of standards? We know of course that many standards exist for various genres of painting. So are there also multiple aesthetic qualities applied to critiqing sculptural works?

Additionally, I’d like to get a better grasp on the importance of aesthetics and it’s applications. Clearly, having an art course designed around it warrants it’s validity. I’m sure that the more I dig into course and outside materials the more the full picture will come forward.
