I’m doing a lot of in depth reading today and I got on a roll! After a very interactive reading and Googling of The Aesthetics in Narcissism by Krauss for Steve’s class I happened across a lot of modern variations of work now classified in the “Oldies” (I.E., the 1970′s)
One example which might have the same “What the heck” response of the ‘piano-walker’ (in the above post ) for some viewers was the performances of two different artists; Gee and Calder. Gee does a modern tribute to Calder at the Whitney: http://youtu.be/4oOCB-lcmHU . After viewing it I looked for an artist statement for the reasoning and found nothing.
