I am looking forward to this course in that I would like to better understand how to recognize the aesthetic qualities in my own works. After viewing the Ted talk with Denis Dutton I am interested in exploring how I view the art of others and my own. What art do I walk past at a show without giving much attention. What works stops me in my tracks and makes me wonder, become excited, or inspired, put my nose inches from the piece?
So if I am to acknowledge these attitudes in my self as an art viewer the next step is to figure out why do I feel that way. Is it an evolutionary thing? Why do I prefer sculptural works? What is it that makes some people love images that look like photos and others to adore abstract? What’s the deal with field painting begin so famous?
This certainly does open a Pandora’s box!
