The Parergon in Earth Art

Abstract:

This paper discusses Jacques Derrida’s idea of the frame in terms of Earth Art.  The work of Earth Artists Phoebe Washburn, Mel Chin, and Robert Smithson, will be critiqued in relation to Derrida’s Parergon.
