A VISUAL TIME LINE OF TRANSFORMATION OF THE HUMAN BODY
As a photographer, I am intrigued by the idea of the human body as a visual time line of transformation, and have been focusing on how the body changes throughout the human life cycle. My goal is to hone in on the female body, specifically that of motherhood and what women who want to be mothers have to endure throughout pregnancy, childbirth, nursing, weight loss, weight gain, disease, surgery, trauma, and the aging process. I hope to reveal the multi-layered psychology of prohibition that surrounds female sexuality while opening up avenues for meaningful discussion.
My overall goal for my studio work is to break down myths of female representation to bring people closer to seeing the breadth of diversity in women’s bodies as natural and normal. My hope is that in the process of doing so, I will inspire women and men to explore feminism and womanhood.
Throughout the next two years of my coursework, I will incorporate photographs of late motherhood and the aging mother.
