Abstract

The Intersubjective Viewer

Artists began incorporating viewer participation into their work in the mid-twentieth century. New media artists Joo Yeon Paek & Laura Splan begin to re-engage their audience by inviting them to determine the narrative of their work, each do this with unique materials and processes. This co-construction of ideas is changing the way artist make art today and how viewers have come to interpret the art being made. Viewers are compelled to interact with the art works. The responses that occur between the viewer and the art will be addressed in this commentary.
